Prevelle™ Silk
What is Prevelle™ Silk?
Prevelle™ Silk is injected by a trained physician and
your desired results may be achieved in just one visit. Your physician can
determine the best treatment approach for obtaining the desired results.
Prevelle™ Silk makes the filler experience more enjoyable by the addition
of lidocaine, a local anesthetic. Injections are virtually painless.
What is Prevelle™ Silk made of?
Prevelle™ Silk is made of the same familiar hyaluronic acid
(HA) you may have already experienced with Restylane™,
Perlane™ and Juvederm™. Hyaluronic acid bathes your skin’s collagen
and acts as a lubricant and a matrix that provides volume.
What makes Prevelle™ Silk different?
Prevelle™ Silk:
- Achieves an immediate and natural-looking result, so you can walk out of
your physician’s office looking naturally refreshed
- Causes minimal to no bruising or swelling, so you can get right back
to your daily activities
- Matches the treatment cycle of Botox Cosmetic™ for maximum convenience.
You can have both treatments done at the same visit
- Does not require a skin test, so you can get results in one visit
How is Prevelle™ Silk different from Botox?
Prevelle™ Silk is a natural-appearing cosmetic filler. Botox
is a drug that blocks nerve transmission and relaxes the underlying muscles. Many
patients have been very pleased after receiving treatment with both products.
Since the treatment cycle of Prevelle™ Silk complements the Botox treatment cycle,
it is convenient for you to have both treatments the same day.
Where is Prevelle™ Silk used?
Prevelle™ Silk is recommended primarily for the correction of
moderate to deep facial wrinkles and folds, such as the nasolabial folds. These are
the ones that appear from your nose to the corners of your mouth (“smile lines”).
Prevelle™ Silk is also ideal for correcting areas of thinner skin or finer
lines such as:
- Frown lines between eyebrows (glabella)
- Forehead lines
- Corners of the mouth
- Outer corners of the eyes (periorbital lines)
- Vertical lip lines (smoker’s or perioral lines)
Prevelle™ Silk provides:
- Soft, natural results
- Convenient, same day procedure
- Immediate results
- Ideal for delicate skin areas
- Little to no downtime, a true “lunchtime” procedure
What should I do prior to treatment?
You should take a few precautions before being treated
with Prevelle™ Silk. One week prior to treatment with Prevelle™ Silk,
avoid taking St. Johns Wort, high doses of Vitamin E supplements, aspirin,
and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen.
These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
Also, if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a
risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence.
Prevelle™ Silk is injected directly into the skin in
tiny amounts by an ultrafine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort.
The procedure is simple and convenient and results are practically instantaneous.
To optimize your comfort during the short procedure, your physician may decide
to numb the treatment area.
What can I expect to happen at a treatment session?
- Your provider will answer any questions you may have before your treatment
- Remove all makeup (if any) prior to your treatment
- An antiseptic will be used to clean all of the areas treated
- Local anesthetics will likely not be needed
- Small amounts of Prevelle™ Silk will be injected into the skin
- You will then receive instructions on how to care for the treated areas
once you leave the office
What can I expect after treatment?
Immediately after your treatment, the injection sites may be sore,
red or swollen. These site reactions are typically mild and go away with time,
usually within hours to days. Follow the post-treatment directions given by your
physician. If there is any concern you have, contact your heath care provider.
You may have a mild to moderate reaction at the injection site, but that should
clear up in a few days.
In the first 24-48 hours after treatment you should avoid:
- Strenuous exercise
- Excessive sun, extreme heat, or extreme cold exposure
- Alcoholic beverages
Is Prevelle™ Silk safe?
Prevelle™ Silk is approved by the FDA. Although new to the US,
Prevelle™ Silk has been used extensively in Canada and Europe for several years.
The safety of Prevelle™ Silk for use during pregnancy, in breastfeeding females or
in patients under 18 years has not been established.
The safety of Prevelle™ Silk in patients with increased susceptibility
to keloid formation and hypertrophic scarring has not been studied. Prevelle™ Silk
should not be used in patients with known susceptibility to keloid formation or
hypertrophic scarring.
Talk with your doctor about any medications you may be taking. In
addition, include any over the counter or natural products you are using on a regular
basis. If you are taking a blood thinner or medications that interfere with clotting
of the blood such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Vitamin E, warfarin or Coumadin, you may be
more likely to develop bruising at the sites of injection.
If laser treatment, chemical peeling or any other procedure based on
active dermal response is considered after treatment with Prevelle™ Silk there is a
possible risk of eliciting an inflammatory reaction at the implant site. This also
applies if Prevelle™ Silk is administered before the skin has healed completely after
such a procedure.
Who should not use Prevelle™ Silk hyaluronic acid filler?
- Patients with a known allergy to hyaluronic acid (HA)
- Patients with a history of severe or multiple occurring allergies
