Fractional Surgical-Free Skin Tightening
LuxDeepIR Fractional Infrared Hand piece
Dermatology & Laser Center of Charleston is proud to be
the first in Charleston to feature the LuxDeepIR Fractional Infrared Hand
piece. This new hand piece is faster, more powerful and has improved skin
cooling over the LuxIR, which it replaced. Now, results are even better,
safer and faster than before.
How does Skin Tightening work?
The Palomar Fractional Infrared Handpiece delivers infrared light deep into the dermis.
Soft tissue coagulation leads to remodeling and shortening of the collagen within the skin.
The remodeled collagen fills in wrinkles and sagging, for overall skin tightening.
How are Treatments Performed?
Usually, a series of treatments at 4-6 week intervals is required to achieve the
desired result of smoother, tighter skin in the face, arms, abdomen,
and other areas.
No specific preparation is required for treatment.
Treatment may be combined with other aesthetic options for best results.
Treatment is not painful.
What should I expect after treatment?
You may experience lingering warmth, tightness, or redness in the treated
area, which fades within a few hours after treatment. Because the
fractional method leaves unaffected skin between pulses, there is a
quick healing process. Generally, you can receive a treatment and go
back to work or to other activities without any recovery time.
What are the results?
Fractional skin tightening produces about a 30% improvement in the appearance of
the skin, safely and with no downtime. This is certainly enough of a
result for you to see and feel. Since collagen remodeling takes place
over a period of time, the best results are seen 3-6 months after your
treatment series is completed. The results are expected to last for an
extended period of time as the remodeled collagen breaks down slowly
with aging and sun damage. Extending your result is helped by using an
effective post-procedure regimen and protecting your skin from the sun.
Deep Heating is Safe
The Palomar LuxIR Fractional™ Handpiece sends infrared light pulses
deep into the dermis, where it creates a carefully controlled area of
elevated temperature. The LuxIR Fractional method is much safer and
more comfortable than the bulk heating approach of many other systems
because it leaves so much of the skin unaffected by the light pulses.
Skin Tightening through Soft Tissue Coagulation*
These areas of elevated temperature cause soft tissue coagulation,
which can lead to collagen remodeling in the deep dermis. Remodeled
collagen can smooth out fine wrinkles and tighten sagging skin. Deep
heating with infrared light can also stimulate increased collagen
production, to create long term results.
Fractional Technology
The LuxIR’s infrared light is delivered as an array of small, regularly
spaced beams, with depth of treatment ranging from 1.5 to 3 mm into the
deep dermis. This Fractional Heating creates a lattice of hyperthermic
islets, with each islet surrounded by unaffected tissue. Right: view

window.
Safety Features
The LuxIR has several additional safety features, including a Contact
Sensor attached to the handpiece tip, which will not allow pulsing
until the handpiece window is in full contact with the skin. Once in
contact, the LuxIR delivers 3-Stage Contact Cooling – before, during,
and after each pulse – with the handpiece tip cooled down to 5ยบ C.
Compared to competing systems, the LuxIR offers superior skin
protection and comfort. Left: LuxIR cooling the skin as it pulses.
